Position Title: Molding Process Technician
Department: Molding
Shift: B (3:30 PM – 4:00 AM Mon-Thurs)
Training on day shift
Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Position purpose/core responsibilities
• Performs normal plastic injection molding setup functions according to established procedures.
Changes molds, downloads computer programs and optimizes machine performance. Has primary
responsibility for the dimensional quality of parts being produced. Responsible for starting of new jobs,
troubleshooting and resolving process problems and optimizing machine cycles.
Main Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Performs the startup and processing of jobs.
• Responsible to develop, train and coach production operators, material personnel, and maintenance within
the department. Ensuring they contribute to the company goals and objectives.
• Verify machines are operating according to standard cycles, allowable scrap, work instructions and quality plan;
ensure downtime codes and scrap codes are entered on time into tracking software.
• Recognizes the various types of cosmetic and dimensional defects and modifies the molding process
within allowable limits to eliminate these defects.
• Works to solve process, mold, and material problems on the production floor.
• Stops the production process if the root cause of a defect cannot be eliminated. Reports the problem to
department leadership.
• Measures parts for dimensional conformance using available Quality inspection tools and instruments.
• Performs the startup and processing of jobs.
• Assists in optimizing machine cycles to meet or exceed standard requirements.
• Provides documentation on process parameters and fills out process sheets as needed.
• Assists with insert changes as required.
• Suggests ideas to provide methods of improvement in the company.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area, and verifies the team is staying clean and organized.
Qualification Guidelines
• Candidates must be a “US Person” (i.e. US Citizen or Permanent Resident) to ensure Vaupell's
compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration
Regulations)
Physical requirements
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to
manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and diagnose mechanical issues through listening
or smell.
• The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms.
• This position occasionally requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Skill, training, or educational requirements
• 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, quality systems procedures,
blueprints/drawings, operating instructions, work orders and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively to train other employees on processes and procedures.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
