WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR TO JOIN OUR SPARK TEAM:
Spark Academy is seeking a warm, flexible, and skilled Early Childhood Behavioral & Intervention Support Specialist to support our children (ages 6 weeks to 5 years), teachers, and families. This role is focused on early identification of developmental or behavioral concerns, classroom coaching on positive behavior strategies, and building teacher capacity around child guidance and classroom management. The ideal candidate will also assist with occasional classroom coverage, mealtime support, and transitions throughout the day.
POSITION: Early Childhood Behavioral & Intervention Support Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director
SALARY RANGE: $40,000-45,000
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Observe children across age groups to identify early signs of behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs.
Partner with families, teaching staff, and specialists to initiate referrals for early intervention services when appropriate.
Provide individualized or small group support for children with identified needs, using developmentally appropriate practices.
Model and coach teachers on positive behavior guidance, classroom management, and relationship-based strategies.
Facilitate professional development sessions for staff on topics like emotional regulation, trauma-informed care, and inclusive practices.
Collaborate with lead teachers to design and implement preventative behavior support strategies.
Communicate with families about developmental milestones and social-emotional growth.
Provide resources and referrals for families navigating behavior concerns or seeking external resources.
Participate in case conferences or family meetings, as needed.
Step in to assist with classroom coverage during lunch breaks, transitions, or staff absences.
Help maintain calm, supportive routines across the center by being a consistent and trusted presence.
Support implementation of center-wide behavior expectations and social-emotional learning frameworks.
Other duties, as assigned by the Spark Academy Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential or its equivalent
North Carolina Early Childhood Credential or its equivalent
Two or more years of experience in a leadership, teaching, behavior support, mentoring, or coaching role in Early Childhood Education
Experience with families from low income and culturally diverse backgrounds
Pass a pre-employment background and fingerprinting, physical, initial drug screening,
have a negative TB skin test (or chest x-ray if necessary) and provide required
documentation of the NCDCDEE.
Must be at least 21 years of age

Ability to communicate with supervisors, colleagues, teachers, students, and families
Effectively collaborate with all school stakeholders
Model desired behavior among staff and students
Be highly organized and demonstrate ability to meet reporting deadlines
Maintain confidentiality of documents and conversations
Be a self-starter and team player
Familiarity with Pyramid Model, Conscious Discipline, or similar frameworks.
Experience supporting inclusive classrooms or children with special needs.

Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
