The Estimator will collaborate with business development and project management teams, playing a critical role in competitive bid preparation and project planning.
About the Role
As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing detailed, accurate estimates for commercial construction projects. You will review drawings, assess site conditions, coordinate with subcontractors, and contribute to the overall planning and execution strategy. This is a growth-oriented role offering long-term opportunity within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Estimation & Bid Preparation
Analyze plans, drawings, specifications, and requirements for accurate cost forecasting
Conduct site visits to evaluate topography, access, and utilities
Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, material, and equipment
Generate and submit RFIs to clarify plans and ensure estimate accuracy
Prepare and submit complete and competitive bids within specified deadlines
Maintain estimation data, documentation, and records according to company standards
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Pre-qualify and solicit bids from qualified subcontractors
Review and evaluate subcontractor proposals for pricing and scope accuracy
Distribute plans and specs to vendors and ensure bid participation
Post-Award Project Support
Assist in subcontractor selection and contract negotiations
Support job buyout and turnover from preconstruction to project teams
Collaborate on forecasting, budget updates, and vendor coordination
Maintain historical data for improving future cost accuracy and bid strategies
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
Identify estimating issues and suggest process improvements
Participate in business development meetings and proposal presentations
Stay current on industry trends, pricing, and construction techniques
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Minimum 2+ years of experience in commercial and/or retail construction estimating
Prior experience with a general contractor is highly preferred
Strong knowledge of construction practices, systems, and materials
Skills & Technical Expertise
Proficiency with construction drawings (concept to buildable)
Advanced Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Office Suite
Experience using PrimeBid, Timberline, or similar estimation software
Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills
Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple concurrent bids and deadlines
Additional Requirements
Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Willingness to travel for pre-bid walks, client meetings, and jobsite evaluations
