Mid-Level Environmental Litigation Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a mid-level Environmental Litigation Associate to join a prestigious, globally recognized law firm with a market-leading environmental practice. This firm represents major corporations, energy companies, and developers across the U.S. and internationally in their most complex environmental and regulatory matters.
Position Overview:
The Environmental Practice Group is known for handling cutting-edge litigation, regulatory compliance counseling, and advising on high-stakes environmental and energy projects. The team frequently partners with clients on:
Environmental litigation in federal and state courts, including toxic torts and CERCLA/RCRA disputes
Permitting and compliance matters related to major infrastructure, natural resources, and renewable energy projects
Crisis management in the wake of environmental incidents or enforcement actions
Environmental due diligence in corporate transactions
Counseling on compliance with federal and state environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and NEPA
Ideal Candidate Profile:
We are seeking an associate with 4–6 years of experience, ideally with a combination of litigation and regulatory counseling experience in the environmental field. The strongest candidates will have:
Substantial experience drafting dispositive motions, managing discovery, and supporting complex litigation from early stages through trial
Deep knowledge of federal and state environmental statutes and regulations
Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
A demonstrated passion for environmental law and policy
A federal or state clerkship or prior government experience (e.g., DOJ, EPA, state AG’s office) is strongly preferred
A JD from a top-tier law school and a strong academic record
Location & Bar Admission:
Applicants must be admitted to practice in the jurisdiction where they are applying or be eligible for admission. This role is available in the firm’s Los Angeles, Century City, New York, or Washington, D.C. offices.
Compensation:
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $310,000 to $390,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The firm also offers a generous benefits package, performance bonuses, and professional development resources.
