We are seeking a skilled SolidWorks Engineer in Clinton Township, MI. The successful candidate will focus on designing custom bins and material handling solutions using SolidWorks, collaborating closely with clients, sales, and the fabrication team to deliver high-quality, tailored products. This role requires strong mechanical design expertise, proficiency in SolidWorks, and the ability to work independently while integrating with a hands-on fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
Custom Design: Develop detailed 2D and 3D models of custom bins and material handling equipment using SolidWorks, ensuring designs meet client requirements and are optimized for metal fabrication.
Client Collaboration: Work directly with clients and the sales team to understand project needs, provide technical input, and refine designs to ensure functionality and manufacturability.
Engineering Drawings: Create and maintain accurate engineering drawings, including GD&T, to support the fabrication team and quality assurance processes.
Fabrication Support: Collaborate with the metal fabrication team to troubleshoot design issues, optimize designs for cost and production efficiency, and provide technical guidance during fabrication.
Documentation: Prepare technical documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and design reports, to ensure clear communication with the fabrication team.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of new products and processes, applying mechanical engineering principles to enhance product performance and durability.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field. Associate’s degree with equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 2 years using SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drafting. Experience in metal fabrication or material handling equipment is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in SolidWorks (CSWA or CSWP certification preferred).
Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical engineering principles.
Familiarity with metal fabrication processes (e.g., welding, cutting, bending) and AutoCAD is a plus.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with clients, sales, and fabrication teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as a solo engineer while integrating with a fabrication-focused team.
