About Dooryard
Dooryard is an early-stage, Maine-based real estate development and modular sales company specializing in modular construction. We are growing quickly with a focus on quality neighborhood design, building community partnerships, and being part of the solution to Maine’s housing crisis. Our work spans modular housing development, historic renovations, mixed-income rental housing, and a growing portfolio of owned and managed properties, as well as retail sales of modular buildings to homeowners and other developers.
As we bring property management in-house and scale our operations, we’re looking for a talented, driven Senior Property Accountant to help build and manage our financial systems.
Position Overview
This is a primarily remote position, with the expectation of attending in-person meetings as needed.
Maine residency is preferred.
The Senior Property Accountant will be a key member of the team, reporting directly to the COO. This person will oversee a wide variety of bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting functions across multiple properties and development entities.
This includes maintaining eight+ sets of property-level QuickBooks files, supporting new development accounts, preparing for tax filings, creating investor reports, and financial statements. This role also plays a key part in managing construction budgets, payment tracking, and financial system integration as the company grows.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, highly detail-oriented, and proactive, with a flexible and adaptable work style and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Property Accounting & Financial Operations
Maintain accurate bookkeeping across multiple properties and entities using QuickBooks
Review General Ledger activity, process journal entries, and post financial adjustments
Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable across all projects
Perform month-end close and prepare timely financial reporting packages
Authorize and execute disbursements including ACHs, wires, and internal transfers
Reconcile bank accounts, manage ledger accuracy, and oversee internal controls
Process vendor payments and track receivables across all properties
Budgeting, Reporting & Development Support
Work with COO and development team to produce annual and project-level budgets
Track and reconcile construction budgets, requisitions, and change orders
Prepare cash flow projections and income/expense forecasting
Create detailed budget variance reports for income, expenses, capital projects, leasing costs, NOI, etc.
Support tax preparation efforts across all entities
Assist in investor reporting and general asset management functions
Software & Systems Integration
Assist with the implementation and optimization of AppFolio, QuickBooks, and Knowify
Participate in Knowify training provided by the company to support project tracking, invoicing, and cost controls
Ensure smooth data flow between accounting and project management systems
Organizational Support & Compliance
Maintain accurate books for Dooryard’s in-house property management division
Support tenant vetting through review of financial documentation
Track licensing, insurance, and financial compliance across entities
Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
5+ years of real estate accounting experience; CPA preferred
Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting theory
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with AppFolio, QuickBooks, Knowify, or Juniper Square is a plus
Real estate, partnership and corporate tax background a plus
