Job Description

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is looking for a Custodian Lead to work in Bethesda, Maryland. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!

Responsibilities

Performs highly complex (senior level) floor maintenance work.

Serves as the main custodial representative in the coordination and performance of special cleaning projects as well as daily cleaning duties in accordance with standard procedures of the custodial department and with client objectives.

Coordinates with building facility managers, custodial supervisor and program manager for all after hour’s floor maintenance projects.

Uses cleaning equipment, including automatic floor machines, commercial vacuums, carpet shampooers and carpet extractors, wet mops, large wringers and other necessary equipment, tools, chemicals and supplies.

Will dry and wet mop floors, scrub and buff floors with rotor and other machines, assist in stripping and waxing projects, and vacuum carpets to clean and control bacteria.

Moves furniture as needed to perform floor maintenance.

Maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and requests repairs when needed. Reports need for repairs to building equipment, furniture, and fixtures.

Supervises other lower-level floor technicians, custodial workers as well as participates in the movement of floor maintenance equipment to and from storage areas to buildings.

Posting advance notice flyers in areas to receive special floor maintenance, using warning tape and other signage in areas where floor maintenance is being conducted in order to control pedestrian traffic and avoid damage to floor areas during maintenance and drying periods.

Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Responsible for reporting any un-safe/hazardous situations related to any custodial work being performed at the NIH campus.

Ability to supervise any project work that is assigned to him/her to completion and inspect other lower-level workers work

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years’ demonstrated detailed experience in advanced level, multi-discipline floor maintenance techniques, custodial operations and procedures.

High school diploma or GED required.

Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.

Advanced skill in the application of custodial floor care materials and chemicals; in the operation of floor care equipment; and in the use and maintenance of all standard custodial tools and equipment.

Ability to read, write and speak and understand English.

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Ability to supervise the work of others.

Must be able to stand, walk, reach and bend for long periods of time.

Ability to work shift starting 2:00pm – 10:30pm

Pay Range

$21.91/hr
