Job Description
FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
1. Operates a console telephone switchboard in order to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls.
2. Performs clerical duties that will help out Admitting or Patient Accounts as assigned by Director of Revenue Cycle.
3. Monitors surveillance camera equipment.
4. Maintains a neat and clean work environment.
5. Pages all Code 3, Fire Alerts, Tornado Alerts, Signal D Alerts, and Stat calls while remaining calm and alert.
6. Maintains an accurate and current listing of hospital personnel and departments with name and extension number as well as phone numbers of physicians and other hospitals.
7. Obtains long distance lines for physicians and hospital personnel and maintains a written record of these calls.
8. Maintains a current alphabetical file of patient names and room numbers.
9. Will perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Revenue Cycle, Manager of Admissions or Administrative Staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Previous switchboard experience preferred but not required.
SPECIAL:
PATIENT CONTACT: Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
TYPING: Should have moderate typing and keyboard skills.
MACHINE OPERATION: Console switchboard, typewriter, computer, calculator, in-house radio, surveillance equipment, mail machine, and copier.
PHYSICAL:
STANDING: Very small amount of standing required when making copies.
WALKING: Small amount of walking.
LIFTING: Minimum lifting (15 to 20 pounds).
VISUAL: Essential for working telephone console, surveillance equipment.
HEARING: Essential in order to operate the switchboard.
SPEAKING: Essential for duties in operating the hospital switchboard console and in-house radio.
