Job Description In collaboration with the associate dean, faculty, and staff the dean of the career and technical education division cultivates a culture of community, innovation, and collaboration focused on student success and academic excellence. The dean is the leader and advocate for degree and certification programs in the pathways of allied healthcare, industrial trade, computer science, business, and education. The dean establishes strategic priorities for the division, writes and administers grants to support existing programs, and develops new programs to meet employment needs in the community.
Duties and Responsibilities Leadership
Provide the vision and oversight for all assigned instructional areas of study. This position supports fifteen full-time faculty, five pro-rata faculty: one associate dean, three office staff, and adjunct faculty.
Cultivate a culture of community, innovation, and collaboration.
Lead, supervise, evaluate, and collaborate with faculty, and staff, in assigned areas of responsibility, and in adherence to negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, accrediting bodies, and college policies and procedures.
Recruit, hire, train, and provide professional development for classified and exempt employees.
Collaborate with faculty to plan, develop, support, and implement curriculum and instructional activities, including assessment; provide curricular oversight
Collaborate with faculty and campus leadership to implement college initiatives that promote student success and improve access for historically underserved populations
Assess the effectiveness of programs and support services provided in the division
Attend and actively participate in campus committees: Executive Management Team (EMT), Instructional Cabinet, Instructional Council and Curriculum Review Committee, Joint Student Services and Instructional Cabinet, and other committees as assigned by the vice president.
Technical
Effectively use data in the creation of student-centered class schedules and educational planners in adherence to deadlines.
Assign faculty and staff workloads, approve leave, time sheets, in-state travel and purchases in the college s software system, ctcLink.
Ensure all faculty complete vocational certification requirements.
Research, write, and implement grants and contracts to support programs within each area of study.
Develop new programs to address the needs of the community.
Coordination of accurate records and safety reports in accordance with State and Federal laws and licensing guidelines for all educational programs offered in assigned areas of study.
Attend monthly Board of Trustee Meetings and contribute to writing board reports to inform the trustees of division activities and initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President of Instruction. Outreach
Represent the college at community and state meetings and conferences, such as, Workforce Education Council (WEC).
Provide extensive and accurate program information to potential students, public, representatives and agencies, and other educational institutions.
Communication
Demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse racial, ethnic, gender, cultural and disabled populations.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Resolve or assist in the resolution of conflict, problems, and complaints in a manner that support students and faculty while adhering to college policy and procedures.
Interpret, apply and communicate effectively orally and in writing, the rules, regulations, policies and procedures to diverse groups Budget
Develop and manage the division budget ensuring effective and strategic use of resources.
Review and approve expenditure or designated funds.
Effectively manage and monitor program budgets and equipment inventory. Qualifications
Master's degree in education or a discipline related to one or more areas within the assigned areas of study.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Experience teaching at the college levelPreferred Qualifications

Experience supervising, evaluating, and leading faculty and staff
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in the decision-making process.
Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, and physical and learning abilities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and practice consensus-based decision making.
Experience with college and program accreditation and state licensing requirements. Conditions of Employment This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $103,000 - $108,912 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
