Position Overview
The PATH Schools Computer Science and Writing Educator for students in grades 38 is creative, tech-savvy, and scholar-focused. This educator will lead instruction in keyboarding using the TypeTastic Curriculum, guide students in the development of written composition skills, and equip them with the digital literacy and citizenship competencies needed to thrive in todays interconnected world. The ideal candidate has experience blending technology, writing instruction, and responsible digital engagement in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Education, English, Instructional Technology, or a related field
Teaching experience in upper elementary and/or middle school
Strong understanding of writing instruction and digital literacy development
Familiarity with or willingness to learn the TypeTastic Curriculum
Incorporates language skills, writing skills and critical learning procedures, utilizing the course of study adopted by The PATH School
The ability to develop caring relationships with scholars and families.
Strong work ethic

Capable of engaging scholars
Excellent communication, superior listening skills, organizational skills, and decision-making ability
Positive classroom behavior management
Ability to adapt material and curriculum to fit classroom/scholar needs

Essential Functions
Typing Instruction
Deliver structured keyboarding instruction using the TypeTastic Curriculum.
Promote proper typing technique, ergonomics, and accuracy.
Monitor student progress through TypeTastic and adjust instruction accordingly.
Composition & Writing
Support students in developing strong foundational writing skills, including sentence structure, paragraph development, grammar, and digital publishing.
Integrate typing skills into writing assignments across various genres (narrative, informational, opinion).
Teach digital tools that support the writing process (e.g., word processors, graphic organizers, spelling/grammar tools).
Digital Literacy
Equip students with skills to navigate digital environments, including research, media evaluation, and digital content creation.
Teach students how to use digital tools (e.g., Google Workspace, educational apps, online collaboration platforms) responsibly and efficiently.
Digital Citizenship
Use Common Sense Media or a similar curriculum to cover topics such as:
Online safety and privacy
Respectful online communication and cyberbullying prevention
Ethical use of technology and intellectual property
Digital footprints, identity, and screen time management
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with homeroom and subject-area teachers to integrate digital skills into broader classroom learning.
Provide guidance and support to students, families, and staff on best practices in digital learning and digital citizenship.
Contribute to a school culture that values respectful, safe, and ethical digital behavior.
