Williams College is excited to announce an opening for a Lead Power
Plant Operator. The Lead Power Plant Operator is responsible for the
safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Steam Boilers, Steam
Turbine, and auxiliary equipment. The Williams College Central Heating
Plant is a combined heat and power facility that supplies steam for
comfort heating and domestic hot water to approximately 90% of the
College Campus. It also supplies approximately 20% of the electricity
consumed by the Campus. The Lead Operator must maintain a thorough
knowledge of all plant systems, operating and emergency response
procedures and the ability to execute procedures and equipment when
necessary. Investigate and clear all alarms by taking appropriate
actions, log if necessary. Perform plant start-up, shut-down and
equipment operations as necessary, including the steam turbine generator
and all auxiliary equipment in accordance with operating instructions

Responsibilities - Operate and maintain Steam Boilers and Steam Turbine
under the direction of the Chief Engineer. - Lead and direct the plant
operator assigned to the shift on daily duties and responsibilities. -
Acknowledges and takes corrective action in response to all system
alarms. - Ensures proper "Lock-out/Tag-out" procedures are followed
per plant policy. - Performs maintenance repairs to equipment as
needed. - Performs water tests as required for the supply and treatment
of boiler feed water and condensate; and adds correct chemical dosage
for proper operation of the boilers. - Assist in creating, developing,
and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for all equipment
within the plant. - Performs all duties in a safe manner, utilizing
safety practices and procedures required by Williams College and the
applicable general laws for Massachusetts. - Responsible for the
training of new operators as required, and in the training and
development of current plant operator(s). - Complete required reports
including but not limited to: Daily Gas Declaration; Daily Gas Usage,
Weekly Electricity produced and Imported. - Position requires working
varied shifts including, night, weekends, and holiday coverage. Covering
open shifts such as filling in for vacations or similar events may be
required. - Must hold or be able to get a Massachusetts Hoisting
License, Classifications 1C and 3A, for licensed use of our folk truck
and overhead hoist. Qualifications - Possess a current Massachusetts 2nd
Class Engineers License or higher to operate steam boilers. - High
school diploma or GED required. - Ability to use hand and power tools,
multimeters, and specialized tools as required. - Ability to read,
write, and communicate verbally. - Must be able to perform water
chemistry tests, and follow proper chemical usage and handling
procedures in accordance with their Safety Data Sheets. -
Demonstrated/demonstrable experience working with computers,
instrumentation equipment, and control systems. - Ability and
willingness to learn the control systems, data logging, and other
systems as required. - Ability to work varied shifts and holidays. -
Ability to work overtime as required. - Must hold a valid driver
license. - Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet for 12 hour
periods. - Ability to navigate throughout the heating plant and multiple
levels using stairs and ladder climbing. Application review will begin
