Title: Database Engineer III â Oracle SME

Responsibilities
We are seeking a Senior Oracle Database Developer and DBA with deep expertise in Oracle environments and a strong background in automation, performance tuning, and platform reliability. This is a critical, hands-on technical role supporting the stability, modernization, and gradual reduction of Oracle systems as part of a long-term cloud transformation strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as our Oracle subject-matter expert (SME), guiding the team through optimization, migration, and potential decommissioning efforts.
Design and implement automation for Oracle installation, patching, upgrades, and ongoing system maintenance using Ansible and shell scripting.
Tune performance of Oracle databases and applications in a complex environment.
Contribute to encryption and security implementation efforts across Oracle platforms.
Support and maintain Oracle systems currently running on AIX, while contributing to evaluations of potential future migrations to Linux/RHEL.
Build, troubleshoot, and optimize Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) solutions to improve our monitoring environment.
Act as the primary escalation point and participate in an on-call rotation every five weeks.
Collaborate with the lifecycle management, monitoring, and security teams to ensure health, compliance, and observability of critical systems.
Must Haves:
10+ years of experience managing and optimizing Oracle environments in enterprise settings.
Adept understanding and execution of PL/SQL development in professional settings, at-scale.
Advanced expertise with Ansible and shell scripting for automation.
Proven success in performance tuning, encryption, patching, and lifecycle management of Oracle systems.
Experience with Oracle monitoring and OEM tools; ability to build OEM from the ground up.
Strong communicator capable of bridging technical details with broader business objectives.
Experience supporting critical production systems with a high degree of reliability and accountability.
Nice-to-Haves:
Certifications, such as Oracle Professional/Master, DataStax Administrator, Enterprise DB Postgres
Exposure to cloud migration projects involving Azure, AWS, and GCP.
Experience working in hybrid cloud/on-prem environments.
Familiarity with reducing legacy Oracle footprints in favor of SaaS or modern cloud-native solutions.
Masterâ s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
