Summary
The Applications Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting enterprise applications such as Microsoft 365 Administration and network-related services. Serves as the primary planner, facilitator, coordinator and manager of Information Technology projects. Develops workplans for projects, identifies resource requirements (labor, hardware, software and network) and manages projects to meet targeted deadlines and deliverables. This position involves troubleshooting, optimizing, and securing network systems while ensuring systems (financial, administrative, police, telecommunications, etc.) meet the specified functional requirements. Provides ongoing support and maintenance of systems. The Applications Specialist will have a deep understanding of Microsoft 365 administration, network protocols, security best practices and application integration.
Works under the general supervision of the Chief Technology Officer.
Duties
Manages, supports, and maintains enterprise applications such as Outlook and Microsoft 365, in hybrid and cloud-based environments.
Works with network vendors to ensure network security utilizes best practices and have deep understanding of firewalls and intrusion detection system.
Assists with help desk tasks and supports the team in troubleshooting and resolving requests, responds to service requests promptly and professionally, keeping requesters informed.
Prepares and maintains workplans for all new system implementations and major projects. Uses the workplan to manage the project and project team members and track status and deliverables.
Posts time reports to a project’s workplan for all people related to a project to track actual hours spent on each task. Identifies overruns and manages agreed upon deadlines. Identifies problems and appropriate resources for problem resolution. Uses completed workplans as a knowledge base for future implementations.
Identifies and manages the use of resources across the Information Technology disciplines for project support regarding the installation of hardware, operations, and network features to support the implementation of the application.
Facilitates regular project issues meetings and maintains issues list.
Prepares weekly status reports for the Chief Technology Officer.
Prepares and maintains detailed documentation of system configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Works with vendors and internal teams to deploy, upgrade, and optimize application systems.
Develops and maintains procedures for system implementations, upgrade implementations, and downtime protocol for computer system.
Acts as systems administrator when necessary to provide computer system security and set up applications and access rights.
Creates ad hoc queries/reports where appropriate.
Provides training and support to Information Technology staff and end-users on best practices, security awareness, and network troubleshooting.
Participates in the on-call rotation for Information Technology coverage within the Township.
Accomplishes other specific and necessary duties as assigned by the Chief Technology Officer.
Works outside regular shift including some evening and weekends hours based on organizational responsibilities and assignments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information services, computer science or application related field from an accredited institution plus three (3) to five (5) years of work experience with the installation, training and support of users in the specific application or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year-for-year basis.
Excellent organizational, project management and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, and the general public.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for a minimum of 4 up to 8 hours and move about the building for a minimum of 2 up to 4 hours per workday.
Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, lift and push/pull to manipulate computer equipment.
Ability to lift and carry up to 74 pounds occasionally for manipulation of computer equipment.
Ability to use hands for repetitive actions such as simple grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements for general office procedures including typing and writing.
Ability to perform job functions using safety precautions where environmental conditions may be challenging.
Ability to perform job functions using safety precautions where loud noises may be present.
Ability to perform job functions using safety precautions where moving machinery may be present.
