Job overview and responsibilities
Operational Communications play a pivotal role in helping United’s frontline employees deliver our mission to connect people and unite the world. There are two Senior Manager positions open to orchestrate clear, engaging communications that empower our teams to deliver exceptional service.
· One of the open positions will lead communications for 5,000+ frontline Customer Support and Advocacy employees and vendors around the world as well as the 1,000 team members who manage the timeliness and efficiency of the airline.
· The other open position will lead communications for our Inflight Services and Catering Operations, which includes United’s 28,000+ flight attendants who serve customers up in the friendly skies.
As United continues to expand its global reach, these positions are instrumental in maintaining our world-class standards and propelling us towards our goal of becoming the world’s best airline. This includes partnering with senior leaders to build and drive communications strategies that support employees.
· Lead and manage a team responsible for the creation and implementation of operational communications
· Provide communications counsel/support for top leaders and key subject matter experts
· Plan and execute end-to-end campaigns that support business priorities and drive behavior change
· Create, edit, manage and publish relevant content
· Use data to present and drive decisions about communications and show impact for United
· Monitor effectiveness of operational communications materials and channels; use data to make planful decisions about communications
· Develop deep knowledge of frontline audiences and their communications preferences to represent their needs
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
· Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
· 7+ years of corporate/operations communications experience
· Demonstrated track record of managing successful, proactive and creative communications campaigns that use a variety of tools, forums and media
· 1+ years of experience leading people
· Understanding of the latest communications practices
· Experience with a frontline operational industry, preferably a union environment
· Executive presence and presentation skills
· Superior leadership writing and editing skills
· Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision/goal
· Proven ability to create integrated communications plans
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively & efficiently in cross-functional teams
· Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams
· Ability to travel up to 10% both domestic and international
· Supports a team providing 24/7 on-call coverage for operational communications needs; will need to be available to provide support and direction to team as needed
