Description:

Position: Solar Design Engineer (C&I Focus)

Location: On-site in Fairfield County, CT

Start Date: ASAP (Flexible Based on Candidate Availability)

We are recruiting on behalf of our client—an innovative and well-capitalized leader in the clean energy sector—for a Solar Design Engineer to support the development and execution of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar projects. This is a key opportunity for a technically skilled and highly motivated individual to work on transformative energy infrastructure in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

About the Role:

As a Solar Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing high-quality, cost-effective, and code-compliant solar PV systems. You will collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, production engineers, construction, and procurement teams to bring commercial-scale solar projects from concept through execution. This position offers the chance to work in a fast-paced, impact-driven environment while advancing the clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Engineering: Develop complete photovoltaic system designs for Commercial & Industrial sites, including DC and AC schematics, single-line diagrams, equipment selection, and array layouts.

Software & Modeling: Use industry-standard software such as Helioscope, PVsyst, and AutoCAD to perform system modeling, performance simulations, and electrical design.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers, permitting teams, and installation crews to ensure seamless transitions from design through construction.

Performance Analysis: Interpret and analyze site data, production metrics, and customer needs to optimize solar designs for both energy yield and financial performance.

Compliance & Documentation: Ensure designs adhere to NEC, local AHJ requirements, utility interconnection guidelines, and internal quality control processes. Prepare full permit and construction document packages.

Lifecycle Support: Contribute to design revisions and system optimizations during development, construction, and commissioning phases to resolve real-world constraints and opportunities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience: 1–2 years of experience in solar PV system design, preferably for C&I applications

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with solar design and modeling tools (e.g., Helioscope, PVsyst, AutoCAD). Familiarity with NEC codes and permitting processes is essential.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or a related Engineering field is preferred.

Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Benefits & Culture Highlights:

Relocation Package: Included if needed

Onsite Perks: Complimentary breakfast and lunch, ping pong table, regular team events, and social gatherings
