The Role:

Artech seeks an early career publishing professional to join its Boston office. A wonderful opportunity, with significant growth potential, for someone eager to get started on a career in publishing or for an early career professional seeking to continue to grow into a more advanced role in acquisitions. The role will be filled as an Editorial Assistant or Assistant Acquisitions Editor, depending on experience.

Opportunity will be given to advance/acquire titles in time. The editorial assistant/assistant acquisitions editor will support and train under two senior acquisitions editors (one in London one in Boston).

As part of the Artech House publishing team, the editorial assistant/assistant acquisitions editor will have the opportunity to contribute to some of the most important subject areas in Electrical Engineering and Technology Management. The editorial assistant/assistant acquisitions editor will have opportunity to learn best practices in peer review, manuscript review, copyright, and manuscript development. Preparing, distributing materials for editorial board meetings, and under supervision of lead editors, running transmittal meetings.

The editorial assistant/assistant acquisitions editor focuses on SME/peer review and manuscript development, preparing final manuscripts for transmittal to production and marketing, allowing the acquiring/commissioning editor to focus on recruiting new authors, reviewing, and developing new projects, and preparing proposals for the Artech Editorial Board.

Responsibilities

Prepares materials for editorial board meetings.

Prepares materials for transmittal meetings.

Participates in and contributes to all editorial board meetings.

Communicates diplomatically, respectfully, and enthusiastically with all departments, authors, series editors, and partners to keep projects on track.

Responds to translation inquiries, licensing requests.

Prepares translation contracts.

Prepares author contracts, routing them for signature.

Oversee registration of copyright with the Library of Congress

Has ownership of the final manuscript development process, preparation of final files, for hand off to production.

Qualifications - required

Bachelor’s degree.

A passion for publishing and a love of science

A desire to learn publishing-industry best practices, systems, and cycles.

Strong project management skills, working with multiple deadlines, tasks, and agendas, moving publishing projects smoothly from start to finish.

Advanced interpersonal communication and diplomacy skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Self-starter, innovative, generous, and kind.

Qualifications - preferred

One-to-two years’ experience in publishing.

A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
