The Department of Facility Maintenance, Automotive Equipment Service Division, is hiring for a Lubrication Worker in Halawa. As a Lubrication Worker, you will lubricate and service automobiles, trucks, heavy machinery, heavy equipment and other gasoline and diesel powered motorized equipment.

Under the general supervision of the Lead Lubrication Worker, the duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Lubricating and servicing a variety of automobiles, trucks and other gasoline, diesel and liquified petroleum gas powered equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Following manufacturer's safety instructions, Federal, State, County, OSHA, DOSH and EPA laws and regulations while performing maintenance tasks on all types of automotive vehicles or equipment.

Inspecting, checking and refilling to proper levels: engine coolant, battery water, brake fluid, power steering fluid, engine oil, transmission fluid, differential oil, transfer case oil, hydraulic oil, front wheel bearing oil, compressor oil and other automotive lubricants or fluids.

Special Work Conditions:

Working hours are Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This position crawls under trucks and other equipment; working in engine compartments; and working with certain mounted special equipment, e.g. compacting units. Work involves exposure to cleaning solvents, used motor oils, and other chemicals. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Some experience and/or training in lubricating automotive or other motorized equipment.

Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to learn and readily recognize defects in the mechanical operation of vehicles; use common lubrication tools, materials, and equipment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; follow safety rules and procedures; handle weights and loads.

Desirable Experience: Lubricating heavy machinery (garbage trucks, street sweepers) or heavy equipment.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:

PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT:

1. Valid Hawaii driver's license (Type 3/automobile).

2. Current valid State Department of Transportation medical examination certificate.

PRIOR TO COMPLETION OF PROBATION:

1. Commercial driver's license (CDL), Class B or higher.

NOTE: The above required licenses and certificates must be obtained by the time indicated and maintained on a current basis thereafter as a condition of employment.
