A postdoctoral research fellow position is available at the Tulane University Center for Sport (TUCfS) to advance research studies on the health implications of sports participation. The Fellow will join an on-going research project of former professional American Football Players. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with keen interest in one or more of the following areas:
Cardiometabolic health
Men's Health
Behavioral Health
Musculoskeletal Health
Renal Health
Sleep Health
Neurosciences
Working under the supervision of TUCfS Faculty Directors, the Postdoctoral Fellow will play a pivotal role in conducting high-level, complex research. The Fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with research partners from various departments within Tulane University, as well as from institutions across the United States and around the globe.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a quantitative research discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS PhD in epidemiology or biostatistics
The fellow will be able to point to prior work that shows strong computational skills, and ideally, experience analyzing large data sets.
Experience handling regulatory compliance matters.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of clinical and translational research methods.
Strong research design and analytical skills.
Strong data management skills.
Excellent time management/organizational skills. Able to multitask and assign priorities in a busy, challenging environment.
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Analyze data utilizing pre-specified analysis plans and coding guides/frameworks.
2. Assists with the creation, testing, and validation of study specific databases, conducting data management tasks to structure multidimensional, autocorrelated data sets.
3. Generate high-quality original research publications
4. Submit and present scientific abstracts at leading medical societies meetings
5. Serves as an integral part of the research team and provides general expertise and technical support.
6. Maintain appropriate document control standards per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
In addition to the mentored research projects, the postdoctoral fellow will be expected to present their research at national scientific conferences, prepare and publish manuscripts, pursue additional training/professional development through internal and external courses or workshops, and develop their grant writing skills.
The position will be for an initial 1-year with opportunity for renewal for up to 2 additional years. Competitive annual salary (NIH-level minimum will be ensured) and benefits are provided. Additional funding is available for conference travel/presentations. Applicants must have completed a PhD, DrPH, or ScD degree (or a MD, DO, or other equivalent doctoral degree with a research-oriented Master's degree) in epidemiology, biostatistics, kinesiology/sports medicine, or other related quantitative fields. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, writing, and organizational skills, be prepared to work collaboratively within a diverse team of researchers.
