Fiberglass laminators work with fiberglass, resin and other materials. Laminators inspect, clean and assemble molds. They use various hand tools to apply and roll out dry/wet fiberglass materials properly. Prep molds and assemble bags for infusion process.
**Duties/Responsibilities:**
1. Laminates and installs hull structural components including stringers, bulkheads, frames and deck components.
2. Works with fiberglass, resin, and other materials, builds decks, hulls & parts meeting high quality standards and daily production numbers of units complete
3. Uses different types of epoxy, polyester, vinyl resins and other related materials.
4. Builds mock-ups, fabricating large and small parts per specifications, hull touch-up, troubleshooting and repairs, painting, gel coat, and finish work.
5. Fabricates large and small parts to specifications and performs repairs on plugs and moldings.
6. Performs prep work and finish work including masking, sanding, cleaning and waxing.
7. Places layers of mat and cloth in mold and smooths out wrinkles.
8. Trims excess material from mold.
9. Mixes catalyst into resin and saturates cloth and mat with mixture, using brush.
10. Works saturated mat and cloth into shape of mold with hands and squeegee, to remove air bubbles and smooth surfaces.
11. Cuts hardened fiberglass from mold with trimming knife.
12. May install stringers and flooring in hull.
13. May apply resin to surfaces of mold prior to placement of fiberglass mats.
14. Checks completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects by measuring with rulers or micrometers, by checking them visually, or by tapping them to detect bubbles or dead spots.
15. Works directly with department leads, supervisors and manager to assure on schedule results.
16. Uses a tape measure, drawings and/or blueprints.
17. Observes all safety procedures are being followed.
**Required Skills/Abilities:**
1. Ability to follow work instructions.
2. Must observe that all safety procedures are being followed. Understand and comply with PPE requirements.
3. Must have good communication skills.
**Experience Preferred:**
4. Proficiency at reading a tape measure, drawings and/or blueprints.
5. Infusion experience preferred. Carpentry skills are a plus.
6. Knowledge of spray-painting epoxy polyurethane and other types of marine coatings and applications.
7. Experience in all different types of marine composite lamination including fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar and core panel.
8. Familiarity with resin systems, fiber reinforcements and core materials
9. Fiberglass hand layup and/or Infusion.
10. Perform prep work and finish work including masking, sanding, cleaning and waxing.
