Job Description

Technical Productions Technician I

Who we are:

At the United Center, we bring excitement to life through sports, entertainment, and community. Home to the Chicago Bulls (NBA) and Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), we've welcomed over 70 million fans and host more than 200 events annually, from premier sporting events and concerts to family shows and special industry events. In the role as Technical Productions Technician I you will help our team bring the next round of stories to life on the United Center campus.

Ready to take center stage?

We’re looking for a motivated and tech-savvy Technical Productions Technician I to join our dynamic production team. In this hands-on role, you'll play a key part in delivering live events across corporate, entertainment, and social spaces. From prepping gear to operating AV systems in real time and wrapping things up post-show, you'll be part of every phase that makes events run smoothly and impressively. If you’re passionate about live production, love solving technical challenges, and thrive in fast-paced environments — we’d love to meet you.

What you’ll do:

Set up, operate, and strike audio, video, and lighting equipment for live events

Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs to ensure smooth show execution

Manage production kits, track AV schedules, and coordinate setup logistics

Handle cable terminations and maintain clean, organized workspaces

Coordinate warranty repairs and RMA shipments, and test gear upon return

Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, and production best practices

Build and maintain strong client relationships with a customer-first mindset

Support “Day of Game” responsibilities and other show-day tasks as needed

Jump in wherever needed to support the team and ensure a flawless event experience

What you’ll need:

Certificate from a technical school or 6–8 months of hands-on AV experience; or equivalent combination of both

Working knowledge of AV systems and comfort in a live production environment

Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills

Ability to collaborate across teams and communicate with clients and stakeholders at all levels

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours as events require

Experience reviewing vendor services or coordinating logistics is a plus

Eagerness to grow professionally through training and learning emerging technologies

Ability to take on both technical and light supervisory responsibilities when needed

The pay range for this role is $48,000-52,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, 401K retirement plan with company match, paid time off and commuter benefits. Additional perks include access to our state-of-the-art gym with free fitness classes, catered meals, fun events and free parking.
