Systems Administrator III

Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a skilled Senior System Administrator to join a local client in the shipbuilding industry. This role will play a key role in supporting IT infrastructure, leading migration projects, and mentoring junior team members.

Duration: Contract-to-hire

Location:100% remote with 1-day onsite biweekly in Seattle, WA office

Schedule: Monday-Friday (8-5pm; on-call shifts upon conversion)

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

Provide mentorship and technical leadership to Level 1 and 2 administrators

Support Microsoft 365 cloud migration projects

Maintain and support IT infrastructure including systems, backups, and security

Utilize PowerShell and SCCM for scripting and automation

Assist in migrating on-prem SharePoint and Exchange environments to Microsoft 365 cloud

Microsoft 365: Experience with migrations and/or implementations

Operating Systems: Strong experience with Windows Server; basic knowledge of Linux/Unix (including Red Hat 12)

VMware: Advanced knowledge and experience

Citrix: Open to candidates with relevant experience

Veeam: Proficient in backup and recovery solutions using Veeam

Nice-to-Haves:

Application support experience

Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware)

Technology Stack & Tools:

Operating Systems: Windows Server 2016, 2019, upcoming 2025; Red Hat Linux

Virtualization: VMware (vSphere, vCenter – 95% of the environment is VMware-based)

Backup & Recovery: Veeam (in use), Zerto (disaster recovery – under review)

Scripting/Automation: PowerShell (primary), SCCM

Security & Compliance: Familiarity with NIST 800-171 and CMMC; uses Nexgen Firewalls
