Summary
The Project Estimator prepares estimates for material, labour, services, and outsourced functions of a project. Reading of contract bids, drawings, and technical specifications, compiling data for a total estimated cost of a specific opportunity. Working with a variety of internal and external customers, the estimator will create a detailed bid list of all parts required in each project. Strong understanding of plate and structural fabrication, welding and finishing is required.
Primary Responsibility
Review project instructions, drawings, and specifications to identify, modify and plan requirements for fabrication, machining, and assembly.
Consult with internal departments.
Preform detailed take offs of customer supplier GA’s
Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly.
Evaluate drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing them with specifications, using engineering skills.
Coordinate with customers, ensuring clear expectations of project scope to bid on and required delivery timelines
Produce master estimate file for review
Determine the processes to produce parts
Communicating with external suppliers, gathering pricing and lead time information
Develop and produce additional supporting documentation as required.
Qualifications
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or relevant Fabrication trades certificate
Minimum of 10 years of technical experience in a steel manufacturing environment
Strong organization skills with ability to manage competing priorities
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
Strong database knowledge desirable, Working knowledge of ERP systems
Excellent English communication skills – verbal and written
Work in a dynamic, fast-paced, custom product environment
Computer Software:
3D CAD – Proficient in Catia, SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
2D CAD – Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent
MS Office – Proficient in MS Excel
