Undergraduate fellows in the NSF-funded Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing Moving from Evolution to Revolution (HAMMER) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) address scientific issues, including concepts from Design, Tools and Process Convergence, Materials State Awareness and Control, Intelligence, and Autonomy, to develop multi-tool hybrid autonomous manufacturing systems that can create a variety of components with assured quality. Undergraduate fellows collaborate with a research and faculty mentor from among NSF HAMMER-ERC’s Research Thrusts and conduct research that is aligned with HAMMER’s focal areas. Undergraduate fellows receive hands-on experience in both theoretical and applied aspects of advanced manufacturing, preparing students for future careers in research and industry.
