The Computed Tomography (C.T.) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross sectional images of the human anatomy which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders.
Duties
Operate head or body x-ray scanners which create a computer-generated cross-sectional image, commonly called a CAT (Computed Axial Tomography) Scan
Responsible for educating and preparing patients for their examinations
Provide patient care that is essential to the performance of a variety of procedures
Take patient medical history before an exam
Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated
Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology
Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients
Supervised by a board-certified radiologist but afforded a great amount of independence and responsibility Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalent
Current American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
C.T. Tech certified preferred
