Communications Local Gov Summer Internship Program

Job Description

Salary: $15 /hour

The MORPC Local Government Summer Internship Program provides the opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to obtain practical work experience with a local government within MORPCs 15-county region to prepare them for possible careers in public service. MORPC coordinates the recruitment and placement of students to match each hosts request; hosts make the final hiring decision and provide an hourly wage. Interns work for the host for 20 hours per week for a 10- to 14-week period. The summer 2025 internship program will begin on May 13th and will end on August 15th.

Interns gain applicable knowledge to enhance classroom learning by working with current government professionals throughout Central Ohio and acquire insights into the services provided by a regional planning commission. Interns also can attend monthly commission meetings as well as special MORPC-sponsored events and are paired with a MORPC staff member to serve as their mentor during the summer internship program. The Communications Intern will assist with the planning and executing of SWACO's communication program. The position will assist with the creation of content for SWACO's digital platforms, various writing projects, event photography, assist with the various research and marketing projects and perform data entry.

The Communications Intern will:

Develop skills related to social media content and idea creation for SWACO's social channels.

Enhance interpersonal skills while attending SWACO-sponsored events and activities.

Develop skills while assisting with writing projects, photography, graphic design and other communication opportunities as they arise.

Desired major of study: Communications, Marketing, Public Affairs, Government Relations

Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)

GPA 3.0 or higher (preferred)

Legally eligible to work in the USA

Reliable transportation to and from work
