Position Summary: The Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting, installing information technology assets. This includes servers, storage, networks, backups, patching, cloud, AI, and cybersecurity resources.
Significant Responsibilities & Accountabilities: Support the operation of all networks, including local area networks, wide-area networks, wireless networks, remote-access VPNs, and site-to-site VPNs. Manages the Microsoft Hyper-V and various Open-Source virtualized environments of hosts and guests. Maintain Microsoft Windows and Linux servers, including patches and updates, user accounts and access, web servers, and other server software. Maintain and implement SSL certificates. Monitor and manage Cybersecurity tools to ensure network security and data integrity, including data back-up, firewall, intrusion detection, and virus protection. Administers e-mail systems, including accounts, and related spam and virus scanning services. Maintains and administers corporate telecommunications and phone systems, including switches, handsets, and smartphones. Maintains an organized system of clearly communicated documentation for processes and troubleshooting. Maintains monitoring applications for the measuring and logging of system performance and reliability. Implements and manages external cloud-based services. Implement AI solutions and develop AI Agents. Works closely with senior management and end-users to identify long-term IT goals and develop IT strategy.
Minimum Qualifications Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have appropriate education, experience, and professional registrations. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant field is required. In the interest of compliance with various regulatory agencies, additional educational requirements and rules may apply. Experience: Relevant experience may be substituted for education. Experience in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft applications, including Exchange, Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Windows Hyper V, Windows Server, SharePoint, MS-SQL, Azure Cloud Resources. Entra ID Experience in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft HyperV Virtualization environments. Experience in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise network architectures including routing, switching, VLANs, LANs, WANS, and wireless networking. Designs, deploys and manages enterprise data storage solutions including SANs, NASs, DASs, and cloud backup solutions. Experience in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting commercial security solutions including firewalls, remote-access VPNS, site-to-site VPNs, AAA (authentication, authorization and accounting), Intrusion Detection Systems, Web proxies and filtering, and SPAM and virus protection and other CyberSecurity Tools. Experience in deploying and maintaining Linux and common enterprise Open-Source applications. Experience in deploying and maintaining Open-Source and commercial system monitoring solutions. Experience in supporting software development environments.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft and Linux server operating systems and applications, Microsoft Desktop operating systems and Office suite, Virtualization in general and Microsoft HyperV in particular, enterprise software development practices and procedures, short-term and long-term data-storage solutions and of TCP/IP networking and security. A keen interest in a fast-paced scientific learning environment with an emphasis on applying new skills, good written and oral communication skills, vast laboratory equipment knowledge, basic word processing skills, and a team oriented work ethic.
