Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Upper School Math Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2025.
The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
Teach four to five sections that may include Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra
Serve as a grade-level advisor to roughly 10 students; prepared to learn and implement advisory curriculum
Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty members
Collaborate with grade-level and departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development
Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences
Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities
Hold students accountable for the Academy’s standards of behavior
Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics education or a closely related field
Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or high school, preferably in mathematics
Passion for teaching high school students
Enthusiasm for the study of math concepts
Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in mathematical instruction at the high school level
Leadership qualities to inspire, motivate and develop students
A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to lead or direct extracurricular activity or coach interscholastic sport if desired
Physical Conditions
Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions:
Classroom environment
Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
Repetitive motion (use of a keyboard)
A non-smoking campus
