Job Description
In 2019, Southern Champion Tray started to work on a project to expand their operating capacity with the vision to add another manufacturing center to their portfolio. Now newly open, SCT is seeking a CI intern for Summer/Fall 2025. This position will provide the selected student with experience in the fast-paced work environment of paperboard packaging manufacturing. This opportunity is for a highly motivated student to join our continuous improvement team in our newly open, semi-automated facility.
The intern will gain experience in the paperboard packaging industry through project-based work. The selected intern will be involved on the ground floor to support process improvement projects, root cause analysis, and the application of lean methodologies across the plant. This job requires someone who is ready to enter a fast-paced team with great attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities. Under the supervision of the CI specialist, the intern will support various continuous improvement projects and all visual management activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Supports CI through the use of lean tools and methodologies to coordinate training and development for all employees.
Utilizes problem solving techniques such as Fishbone, 5-Why, and PDCA to support root cause analysis for process improvements.
Creates standard work instructions and process flowcharts.
Applies statistical methods to estimate production requirements and process capability studies.
Apply project management skills to prioritize, adapt to change and execute plans in a fast-paced environment.
Supports/Leads Kaizen & 5S event planning and execution to support the implementation of standards across the plant.
Supports the development and analysis of current / future state process mapping.
Form solid business and cross-functional relationships at all levels, internally and externally
Utilize critical thinking and analytical skills to make connections, synthesize information and develop action plans.
Provide technical support to all groups to solve problems related to safety, quality, and productivity.
Qualifications
Field of study is engineering or related (Sophomore or higher standing)
Availability to work 30-40hrs/wk during summer.
2.7 GPA minimum
Strong project management skills
Demonstrated leadership capabilities
Knowledge of LEAN methodologies used in manufacturing (Six Sigma certifications are preferred)
Fluent in MS Office, specifically: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail
Works well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
