Trainee: $16.21per hour
CO I: $17.34 per hour
CO II: $18.56 per hour
CO II OUTSIDE DETAIL: $20.56 per hour

Position Overview:
The purpose of this classification is to ensure the safe, legal, and humane custody and care of persons who are incarcerated in the Effingham County Prison. Employees in this classification may also supervise visitation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Assists with supervising and observing inmate activity within the prison, monitors inmates during visitation.
Assists with transporting inmates to work details, court, and medical facilities as needed; transfers inmates to the custody of correctional officers who supervise outdoor work details.
Assists in conducting head counts in accordance with Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures to provide security.
Assists in making rounds of prison for the purpose of maintaining security, checks locks, fences, alarms, and other security devices.
Assists with supervising inmates during mealtimes, yard calls, visitation, telephone, and when mail is opened; assists with administering medication, first aid, and responds to inmate requests for medical attention; assists with supervising routine cleaning and maintenance activities within the prison.
Assists with accompanying inmates from one area of the prison to another.
Assists with preparing or completing various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents.
Correctional Officer Trainee must complete the P.O.S.T. certification within a reasonable amount of time as to become certified as a Correctional Officer I
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a valid POST certification in corrections and weapons certification.
