Saint Mary Magdalene School, a vibrant and culturally diverse PreK-K through 8 school, located at 2940 Parkside Road in Columbus, is seeking an inspiring book enthusiast and technology guru to develop the next generation of readers and techies as our Library/Technology Teacher.
The school is located in Westgate, a gem of a neighborhood in the Hilltop and enrolls approximately 265 students from age 3 - 14. The ideal candidate will be passionate about educating and supporting students K-8. They will be hardworking, collaborative and have strong communication skills. He or she should be willing to work with others as part of a professional learning community as well as plan/implement engaging, standards-based instruction that meets the various learning needs and levels of students, while including technology to enhance the learning experience.
Responsibilities:
Our LibrarianTechnology Teacher plays a vital dual role as both an educator and information specialist
This professional is responsible for developing, managing, and promoting a dynamic library and media center that supports literacy, inquiry, and digital citizenship
The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers to enhance student learning through the integration of literature, information literacy, and technology
Promotes critical thinking, engagement with information in all of its forms, and the use of technology to enhance learning
Assists teachers and students in the selection of appropriate materials for research and units of study
Informs teachers and students of new materials and encourages their circulation through book talks and other promotional opportunities
Provides recommendations and book selection guidance to students and encourages interest in personal reading to enhance their literature background
Provides support to the building technology program
Evaluates, selects, and orders new library materials including print and non-print resources to meet the diverse needs of students and staff
Maintains the library management system and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system
Maintains a current inventory of library materials
Allocates the library budget
Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collection
Evaluates the library program, services, and materials in terms of adequacy to curricular needs, student needs, community needs, and state and national standards
Facilitate the use of the library space throughout the day, including scheduled classes
Creates a welcoming and learner-centered environment and promotes appropriate conduct of students using the library
Participates in curriculum evaluation committees, as assigned
Supports the students by providing other duties as assigned (i.e. morning, recess, lunch, dismissal duties)
Requirements:
Hold an appropriate Ohio teaching license (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach
Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks
Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus Protecting God's Children training
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
