A123 Systems, LLC in Novi, Michigan is hiring a Sr. MES Engineer

The Senior MES Engineer for Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing will be responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and continuous improvement of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) within a high-tech lithium-ion battery production facility. This role will focus on optimizing manufacturing processes, enhancing production efficiency, ensuring quality control, and driving real-time data visibility. The Senior MES Engineer will work closely with IT, operations, engineering, and production teams to streamline processes and ensure that the MES supports the overall manufacturing goals.

Specific responsibilities include:

Lead the design and implementation of MES solutions tailored to lithium-ion battery module, pack and ESS container manufacturing processes

Configure and customize MES functionalities for production scheduling, resource allocation, workflow management, and quality management

Integrate MES with automation platforms, PLCs, and other manufacturing applications, if need, with ERP system

Utilize data analytics to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reduction

Collaborate with operations, engineering teams and IT to analyze manufacturing processes and implement solutions to improve throughput and quality

Ensure MES solutions comply with industry standards (e.g., ISO, FDA)

Support quality assurance processes, including batch tracking, traceability, and regulatory reporting

Provide training to end-users on MES functionalities

Support ongoing system maintenance and troubleshooting activities

Lead MES projects from inception through implementation

Manage scope definition, resource planning, timeline management, and stakeholder communication

Drive requirement gathering with various stakeholder

Minimum requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

Extensive experience with MES implementations, preferably in battery or high-tech manufacturing environments

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and systems integration

Excellent project management and communication skills

Experience with data analytics and continuous improvement methodologies

Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions

Passion for systemic problem-solving using systems and data-driven approaches

The must haves:

7+ years of experience in MES engineering and implementations

Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs and HMIs

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, and SQL

Ability to integrate MES with ERP, SCADA, and PLC systems

Experience in connecting IT systems to shop-floor systems

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles

Familiarity with ISA-95 standards is plus

Strong analytical skills to interpret complex production data

Ability to identify process improvements and optimization opportunities

Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for system issues Knowledge of automation (e.g., robotics, AI-driven process control, machine learning applications) to improve production efficiency

Experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing or a related industry (e.g., electronics, automotive, energy storage) is highly preferred.

Strong background in MES software, including systems such as Ignition, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Siemens SIMATIC IT, Wonderware, or similar platforms.

Experience with industrial automation systems and data integration for real-time production monitoring.
