Structural Designer

Job Description

Kelaca is looking for a Structural Designer for our client partner in Phoenix, AZ (Scottsdale) or Tucson, AZ. This position is primarily responsible for creating structural models and construction drawings in a deadline-focused production environment.

Once you are fully trained in the job, you will have the following key responsibilities:

This role is a blend of BIM design and structural engineering, with emphasis on applied engineering judgement – not calculations.

Creates and coordinates structural designs, producing efficient, budget-conscious drawings. Whenever possible, assists engineers by making preliminary design decisions such as framing sizes and orientation.

Prepares structural drawings with engineer input, including grids, columns, foundations, and framing.

Coordinates designs with architectural and other disciplines, resolving conflicts and notifying engineers as needed.

Collaborates with engineers to share data between RISA and Revit models, such that duplicated modeling effort is reduced.

Estimates drafting hours accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, and some work experience.

Software: Revit, AutoCAD (nice to have), and construction/engineering software. Must have some experience modeling in 3D – Revit preferred.

Strong mathematical, reasoning, and communication abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Nice to have: Using computer programming to automate tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to sit, handle objects, and communicate effectively.

Occasionally lifts/moves up to 50 pounds.

Requires clear vision, including depth perception and focus adjustment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Occasionally exposed to outdoor conditions.

Typical noise levels are moderate.
