Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Controller to join our finance team in a contract capacity. This long-term contract position offers an opportunity to take ownership of financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of reporting processes. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting systems and a strong ability to manage reconciliations and financial audits.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Oversight:

Lead and manage all accounting operations, including but not limited to all month end closing activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis.

Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings and reporting to support all internal and external stakeholders (management, banks and lenders and private equity sponsor).

Audit & Compliance:

Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, ensuring thorough preparation and a smooth audit process.

Oversee tax reporting and compliance for operations in both Canada and the U.S., ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations.

Banking & Financial Management:

Manage weekly or monthly preparation and submission of bank borrowing bases, monthly covenant compliance reporting, and relationships with financial institutions.

Monitor and optimize cash flow, including intercompany transactions and transfers.

Process Improvement & Team Leadership:

Implement structured processes and disciplines to meet deadlines and improve accuracy; including documentation of accounting processes and SOWs.

Manage and mentor a team, including remote employees, fostering collaboration and accountability.

Strategic Contributions:

Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to support organizational growth.

Partner with leadership to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights for decision-making.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, (CPA or related Canadian designation strongly preferred).

Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including a track record of hands-on leadership.

Demonstrated expertise in financial accounting and reporting, audit processes and partnership and U.S. and Canadian tax regulations reporting.

Strong understanding of banking relationships, borrowing bases, and covenant management.

Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, namely Microsoft Dynamics ; advanced Excel and Power BI skills are necessary.
