Job Description
We are looking for a highly experienced Controller to lead and oversee the financial operations of our organization in Oakland, California. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support business growth. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise in accounting practices and leadership within service-oriented environments.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily accounting activities, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Ensure accounting records align with company policies and regulatory standards.
Manage monthly and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timely reconciliations.
Establish and maintain internal controls to protect assets and ensure reliable financial reporting.
Monitor compliance with tax laws and regulatory requirements; supervise preparation of filings and documentation.
Enforce adherence to corporate governance and internal financial policies.
Manage company cash flow to maintain liquidity for operations and investments.
Deliver financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic planning and business growth.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by Managing Partners.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Extensive knowledge of accounting practices specific to law firms.
At least 7 years of experience in finance/accounting leadership roles, preferably within legal or professional services sectors.
Demonstrated success as a results-driven self-starter, delivering projects on time and within budget.
Strong verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and manage teams in a fast-paced law firm environment.
