Job Overview
We are seeking a mechanical engineer with significant experience in the gas utility industry, tasked with broadening our array of products and solutions for utility, residential, and propane applications. This requires providing crucial technical engineering support for our products. The engineer must reliably assume responsibilities, maintain a high sense of urgency, prioritize tasks effectively, demonstrate superior time management skills, and act as a consultant in product/engineering design by offering technical recommendations, support, and guidance.
A Day In The Life
Collaborate closely with the North American engineering team and department manager, adhering to their guidance for all tasks, projects, and assignments. Maintain professionalism in a business environment and comply with the company's systems, ethics, and safety policies. Demonstrate self-motivation, reliability, and proactive thinking, maintaining a high sense of urgency in task completion. Thoroughly understand the company’s work procedures, standards, and processes, and actively contribute to their continuous improvement.
Interpret electrical blueprints/drawings to create material takeoff lists for electrical products used in quotes. Embrace new challenges and strategize to meet or exceed goals related to design, cost, quality, and deadlines. Understand the applications, technical features, and offerings of existing products. Conduct product research and development, presenting findings through presentations and technical reports.
Manage design activities for both existing and new products. Engage in planning for new products, product development, production launches, and setting up product roadmaps to boost offerings, sales, and customer awareness. Collaborate with various internal teams like Customer Support, Sales, Marketing, etc., on customer queries and design development. Handle multiple projects, defining technical scopes, task delegation, coordination, communication, and timely completion.
Identify and address issues with production equipment, driving proactive solutions. Develop and control manufacturing planning and engineering processes for new projects, including tool and equipment procurement. Implement cost reduction and quality improvement activities by adopting new technologies, automation, and lean practices. Remain prepared to take on new tasks, assignments, and challenges as required by the department manager. Possess general knowledge in measuring devices like micrometers, calipers, and scales.
What will help you thrive in this role?
Minimum 2-4 years of experience in the mechanical industry exposure with engineering processes and gas utility products. Experience in managing full engineering design processes, offering technical support for products, and overseeing projects with diverse objectives such as product development, R&D initiatives, FEA, product modifications, and enhancements. Proficiency in Solidworks and MS Office tools is required, along with working knowledge of Driveworks and SAP.
