VDOT Bristol District is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical advice, guidance, and support across various engineering program areas. In this role, you will play a critical part in delivering accurate engineering analyses and recommendations while ensuring timely project completion and effective communication with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert technical advice and guidance for assigned engineering program areas.

Prepare thorough analyses, reports, and recommendations based on geotechnical engineering determinations.

Offer engineering consultation and support related to specific program areas, including project design and implementation.

Effectively manage assigned projects, ensuring all deliverables are completed on time and meet VDOT’s high standards of quality.

Collaborate and communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government officials, consultants, citizens, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) regarding transportation projects and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices.

• Knowledge of civil engineering concepts, construction sequence, methods, materials and

practices.

• Valid driver's license.

• Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare technical reports.

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering software.

• Knowledge of drilling operations, pavement and soils testing, and other field data acquisition

techniques.

• Knowledge of geology, geotechnical engineering, regional geologic formations, soils and

rocks.

• Ability to perform various investigations, analyze problems, draw logical conclusions and

make recommendations to resolve issues.

• Ability to read and understand highway construction plans.

• Knowledge of new technologies and procedures and the application of statistical concepts for sampling and testing various materials.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of VDOT specifications, standards, programs, procedures and policies related to construction and maintenance use of materials

• Experience in geotechnical engineering

• Proficiency in navigation and use of web-based systems needed to perform the job.

• A combination of training, experience, or education in geotechnical engineering, geology or related field desired
