This role involves creating and modifying CNC programs, setting up machines, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring precision and efficiency in production. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with CNC machinery, advanced programming skills, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
CNC Programming: Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-code, CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, AutoCAD, Microvellum), or machine-specific interfaces to meet project specifications.
Machine Operation: Operate CNC machines (e.g., routers, lathes, or mills) to cut, shape, and finish wood, composite, or other materials with precision.
Machine Setup: Configure CNC machines by selecting and installing tools, fixtures, and materials. Adjust machine settings to ensure optimal performance.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings to develop accurate programs and produce parts to exact specifications.
Quality Control: Inspect finished products for accuracy, precision, and compliance with design standards. Troubleshoot and resolve programming or machining issues.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts. Identify and report major repair needs.
Material Management: Select and prepare raw materials for machining. Monitor material usage to minimize waste and maintain inventory records.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
Collaboration: Work with shop managers, designers, and other team members to refine designs, improve processes, and meet project deadlines.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of programs, machine settings, production output, and any issues encountered during operation.
Qualifications:
Experience: 3-5 years of experience operating and programming CNC machines in a millwork, woodworking, or manufacturing environment.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or technical certification in CNC programming, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
Skills:
Advanced proficiency in CNC programming and G-code, with experience using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, AutoCAD, Microvellum).
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Familiarity with a variety of CNC machines and control systems.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Certifications: CNC programming certification or OSHA safety training is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with exposure to dust, noise, and machinery.
Preferred Attributes:
Proactive and innovative approach to improving programming and production processes.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
