Lead Custodian - (Senior Maintenance Technician) - Colorado Springs Airport - 2nd Shift

The Colorado Springs Airport is ready to welcome a Lead Custodian to their dynamic team! As a lead custodian, you will

perform a variety of janitorial duties while assisting leadership by managing team scheduling, assignment of duties, training, safety, and compliance.

Work Location: Colorado Springs Airport - 7770 Milton E Proby Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80916

Job Type: Full-time; 40-hours/week

Hourly Salary: $25.87 - $31.06 - to include a paid shift differential

Work Schedule: 2nd Shift: 2:00PM - 10:30PM

The selected candidate must pass (or have already passed) a fingerprinted-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration.

As a Lead Custodian, you will:

Assist in training new custodians on proper cleaning methods and procedures

Oversee operations across all shifts at concourses and terminals

Inspect the work of custodians, ensuring it meets quality standards and identifying areas for improvement.

Ensure the facility is kept clean and in good condition, including identifying and addressing cleaning, safety, and maintenance needs

Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, scrubbing, and vacuuming

Sanitize bathrooms, clean inside and outside windows

Lift, move, and carry trash, supplies, and equipment which weigh in excess of 50 pounds using appropriate body mechanics

Identify cleaning supply needs and equipment reviews needs with appropriate management and supervisory staff

Manage the use of cleaning equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies, ensuring safety and efficiency

Operate a snowplow to keep walkways and parking lots free of snow and ice during seasonal weather

Interact effectively with custodial personnel, management, members of the public and representative from other departments

Knowledge of:

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Cleaning practices and procedures used in high volume use building

Methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, safety practices and equipment used in custodial workThe Ability to:

Effectively lead and motivate team members

Plan, organize, coordinate and oversee the work of custodial staff

Demonstrate strong communication skills for interacting with colleagues and provide instructions

Read, understand, and follow directions, custodial maintenance policies and procedures, labels on cleaning supplies, and other administrative procedures, policies, and reports

Identify and address cleaning needs and potential hazards

Stand, walk, and perform physical tasks associated with cleaning for extended periods of time

Demonstrate background in performance management, inspections and services metrics

Safely and effectively operate assigned equipment, tools, and vehicles such as scissor lifts and snowplows

Maintain an awareness of all airport safety and security issues

Possess or willing to obtain and maintain airfield driving movement & non-movement privileges

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)

Five years of full-time professional experience in a janitorial, custodial or in a related field

Possess or obtain within 6-months of hire, and ability to maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

Preferred Qualifications

Successful, full-time experience guiding, training and supporting a team of employees

Experience which demonstrates proficiency in floor care

Experience performing maintenance in a high-traffic facility

Experience with snow removal of sidewalks and parking lots

Experience with general facilities and/or grounds maintenance
