Rate of pay: $14.20/hr - $15.00/hr
Shift: Varies. Will be required to work at an offsite facility
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Wellness Director/Coordinator and consistent with the mission of the YMCA of the Suncoast, the wellness floor coach will assist members in obtaining their individual wellness goals by educating them about services and instructing members in proper Strength Training Principles and Wellness Evaluation protocols. Provide knowledge and concern for the members' well being at all times.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years old. Must be knowledgeable in selectorized equipment, free weight training principles, and YMCA fitness testing components. High School graduate or equivalent required. Degree in Wellness, psychology or communications preferred. This person should have a strong personal commitment to overall wellness; have a positive attitude and ability to work independently. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE, Foundations of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y training required. Upon hire, YMCA Foundation of Strength and Conditioning certification, National Personal Trainer Certification, CPR, AED and First Aid certification required. Upon hire, Wellness Center Member Engagement Worksheet, Listen First Skills Assessment, Wellness Center Skills Assessment and SMART Start Coach application required. Get SMART is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Must have excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively interview members regarding their wellness needs. Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants in proper execution of weight bearing and cardiovascular exercise. Must have current knowledge of strength training guidelines and ability to modify exercises for special populations when needed.
PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must have the ability and patience to instruct members while using effective communication and human relations skills to handle situations with people of all socioeconomic levels. Must have the ability to conduct, demonstrate and safely lead members at their personal level of ability, including proper exercise technique and serving as a spotter. Must be able to lift an equivalent of 50 pounds.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Relationship building activities
A. Create a welcoming environment
B. Meet, greet and make members and prospective members feel welcome.
C. Introduce members of similar interest to one another.
D. Responds to member questions and seeks out additional information when needed
E. Thank members for allowing us to serve them.
*2. Monitor wellness areas, including locker room, provide orientations and assists members with workouts.
3. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
4. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility an care for equipment.
A. Maintain cleanliness of all selectorized and free weight equipment.
B. Responsible for the care, returning, and storage of all equipment.
C. Fill all bottles and changes towels in fitness center when needed.
D. Record all maintenance duties in proper logbook.
*5. Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety and injuries including following all emergency procedures
6. Engage in positive public relations with members.
A. Maintain an air of professionalism at all times.
B. Wear appropriate dress including closed toed shoes and nametag while on duty.
*7. Know all emergency procedures and is able to administer CPR/AED and first aid.
8. Supervise and control occupancy and traffic flow on all equipment.
9. Must be able to educate and enforce YMCA of the USA strength training guidelines and regulations with all members.
10. Check on all orientation appointments confirm and reschedule when needed. Give follow-up calls when needed to those missed appointments and verify dates and times.
