Student Health Insurance (SHI) is responsible for the administration of and student compliance with the University's health insurance requirement. This team is within the Office of Student Life and provides solutions for students to meet this requirement as well as eligibility requirements. SHI also performs file transfers, annual premium distribution to policy partners totaling $45-50 million dollars, communications, benefit plan oversight, compliance with appropriate regulations, fiduciary outcomes, customer service and partnering with policy partners and campus providers to provide solutions for health insurance options.
Job Description
Leveraging extensive industry knowledge and leadership experience, the Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight and execution of all functional areas within the Student Health Insurance (SHI) department at The Ohio State University. To achieve the strategic goals of this position and the organization, the Director will be forward-thinking and strategic in order to develop, lead, and implement SHI operations. This role directly manages and leads a team of professionals and sets the strategic vision for the SHI team. This role also develops and manages interpersonal relationships to inform and advise senior leadership on matters affecting Student Health Insurance.
The Director also leverages business acumen and industry or discipline knowledge to guide a team through areas that have depth, complexity, financial and regulatory implications. This requires building and maintaining collaborative relationships with policy partners, campus providers, other campus departments, as well as external peers and experts. It also includes identifying, benchmarking, recommending and communicating student health insurance benefits programs. This role oversees partnership with technology and process design resources and works with policy partners to deliver student health insurance benefit options. The Director also provides oversight of policy partners, third party administrators and pharmacy benefit managers, and consults with Student Life leadership on the strategic direction of benefit programs.
The Director is also responsible for leading and managing the SHI team members, including conducting performance management and employment decisions. This role is responsible for compliance and consistent administration of the SHI benefit program, consulting with legal resources to provide guidance on compliance issues, and partnering with Student Life fiscal services for premium distribution and fund stabilization related to the program. Accountable for business or operational processes and/or program management.
This individual have important knowledge and understanding of the uniqueness of student health insurance and benefits programs and the students they serve and addresses complex operational and strategic challenges where new solutions need developed based on limited information or prior precedent.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Minimum of 10 years' relevant experience providing leadership in health and wellness, health management, health insurance or related field.
Experience managing and leading teams of professionals
Considerable experience negotiating with insurance carriers, claims companies and healthcare providers
Considerable experience in general accounting and funds management Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as strong customer service skills
Proficient at presenting publicly and in other database computer skills.
Desired:
Master's degree in business management, healthcare or a related field.
15+ years of relevant experience
Experience with university health insurance programs.
Additional Information:
Job profile pay range
$138,600.00 - $182,300.00
Offers will be made within this range and will be based on candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity and available budget.
