Job Title:Curator, Academic and Public Programs

Department:Wexner Center for Arts Learning and Public Practice

The Wexner Center for the Arts, within the Office of Academic Affairs seeks a Curator, Academic and Public Programs, responsible for curatorial practices in learning and public programs supporting, initiating collaboration, and realizing a range of public programs, including but not limited to talks, panels, film screenings, workshops, and other public engagement projects and practices. The Curator, Academic and Public Programs collaborates with the Senior Curator, Academic and Public Programs to assist, support, and maintain existing learning and public programs and contribute to research, evaluation, and the development of new academic and public programming where opportunities exist across all four program areas: visual arts, film, learning, and performing arts in alignment with the WCA's mission and strategic plan.

The Curator, Academic and Public Programs will assist and support the development, coordination, and facilitation of engagement initiatives and programming for a variety of interests, audiences, and communities, including, students, faculty and the general public. As a part of this practice, the Curator, Academic and Public Programs will work cross-departmentally and across artistic disciplines.

Evenings and weekends are required. Specific programmatic responsibilities may shift depending upon annual priorities set by the Wexner Center for the Arts (WCA) Executive Director and/or the Head of Learning and Public Programs.

Experience: 5-7 years of experience

Qualifications: Advanced degree included or supplemented by study in Education, Art Education, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field appropriate to the position, or an equivalent of education and experience. Strong organizational, teaching, communication, and customer service skills required. Strong research and writing skills required. Desire and ability to work collaboratively. Professional experience in a museum, nonprofit, learning setting, or similar environment required. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to and proficiency in public practice, including leading and facilitating work with the public.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products strongly preferred, including Excel; excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and accurate; ability to foresee, evaluate, and respond effectively to complex circumstances and conditions; a willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve; strong initiative and organizational skills; a demonstrated customer service mindset and collaborative style of work; proven ability to manage multiple time-critical priorities and projects with minimal supervision.

The Wexner Center for the Arts is The Ohio State University's multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art.

Key Responsibilities:

University Collaborations and Student Engagements (40%)

In consultation with the Head of Learning and Public Programs and Senior Curator, Academic and Public Programs, the Curator, Academic and Public Programs will support, develop, and deepen relationships and collaborations with faculty and students across the Ohio State University community. Through thoughtful engagement, amplify Wexner Center programming, artist residencies, and other initiatives and program events available to the campus community, intersecting with coursework and research topics and interests, adding to the social, creative, and cultural fabric of campus life. Support cultivation and sustained cohesive partnership with faculty, students, and staff of the university community and facilitate ongoing awareness and exchange of support, resources, and program offerings.

Assist and support the Senior Curator, Academic and Public Programs in the development, implementation, facilitation of co-sponsored public programs across the spectrum of university departments and academic units. Ensure collaborations and partnerships are balanced, reciprocal, and align with the Wexner Center's strategic goals and mission. Additionally, the Curator of Academic and Public Programs will collaborate with academic colleagues and partners and colleagues across the institution including administration, operations, and other curatorial areas, to ensure that public programs are not only accessible to university audiences and participants, but also accessible to the broader public.

In addition to programmatic responsibilities, the Curator, Academic and Public Programs will be responsible for partial academic teaching in an academic area(s) as determined by discussion and collaboration with and guidance from the Dean of Arts and Humanities, an Academic Arts Chair(s), and Wexner Center for the Arts Executive Director and Head of Learning and Public Programs. Additionally, the Curator, Academic and Public Programs will also teach and learn in the Wexner Center for the Arts visual arts galleries, working with The Ohio State University students and faculty, as applicable.

Public Programs (40%)

Works closely with the Senior Curator, Academic and Public Programs, the Head of Learning and Public Programs, and the Wexner Center Executive Director, in the development of public programs; then in consultation and collaboration with other Wex team program leads in the implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of those programs, including but not limited to endowed lectures, gallery talks, artist talks, panels, workshops, convenings, and other public events and programs.

Special Projects as Assigned (20%)

Specific programmatic responsibilities will shift depending upon annual priorities set by the Head of Learning and Public Programs and/or the Wexner Center for the Arts Executive Director in collaboration with other staff members. Additional miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned by the Head of Learning and Public Programs and/or the Senior Curator, Academic and Public Programs.
