Description:

This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with Newcomb Institute Executive Director and Director of Research on projects related to quantitative database building, data mining and data analysis as well as report generation on issues of gender equity, with a focus on reproductive, maternal, and infant health data from hospitals and government sources; vital statistics data on births and deaths; crime data on violence and violence against women; and sociodemographic data including employment data and census data. Studies will likely focus on Louisiana and the Gulf South but may include data from South Asia or East Africa. The candidate should be a social epidemiologist, demographer, or economist with relevant experience and expertise including experience acquiring and managing large scale government datasets.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Public Health, Economics, Demography or related field.Experience in quantitative data analysis using advanced statistical methods with survey data and generation of publications and presentations for academic venues as well as government reports. Strong academic writing skills and publication experience.Ability to coordinate and work with researchers from across social science and public fields and across institutions.Ability to effectively present and communicate research to diverse audiences.Training and experience working on gender equity issues.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience creating and managing IRB protocols.

Experience with US government databases from vital statistics, hospital data, and crime data.

Experience with grant proposal development
