Director of Development - Bethesda Mission
The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director as a member of the Executive Team and will be responsible for donor relationship building, fundraising, and related development activities of the Mission. This position will lead a five person development team, to help support the goals of Bethesda Mission.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Actively seeks to maintain a prominent, positive public image and a high level of visibility to all constituents, including local and state governments, major donors, community and general public.
2. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the department’s administrative function and performance. Enhances and/or develops, implements and enforces goals, policies and procedures of the department and organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Mission.
3. Plans, develops, and executes strategies for obtaining private donations; identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations). Implements systematic efforts to identify, solicit, steward, maintain and upgrade annual giving donors.
4. Coordinates and manages a planned giving program, implements and directs a major gift solicitation program to corporations and affluent individuals, and oversees foundation grants and solicitations for capital projects and program expansion funding.
5. Assists with the annual operating budget identifying trends, income thrusts, objectives and activities of the Mission in conjunction with the CFO and Executive Director. Strives to improve efficiency and reduce costs in all areas of the Mission.
6. Prepares regular reports to the Board of Directors to inform it of Development activities and progress.
7. Assists the Executive Director in departmental strategic planning as requested.
8. Assumes other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Provides a biblically sound testimony of having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and leads a life worthy of that profession. Actively engages in private and corporate prayer, Bible Study, regular church attendance, and holy living.
2. Agrees with and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the Mission’s policies that are included in the Bethesda Mission Directives, the Bethesda Mission Code of Conduct, the Bethesda Mission Statement of Faith, the Bethesda Mission Document on Sexual Sin and Brokenness, Value Statement and Narratives, and the Mission Statement.
3. Committed to serving the poor and homeless.
4. Presents a history of stable and responsible employment.
5. Possesses a Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years experience in business development and/or fundraising, i.e., direct appeals, capital campaigns, planned giving.
6. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant and possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, guests, visitors, donors, and the general public.
7. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. necessary to meet goals and objectives. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility and travels to other Mission facilities as required. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Interacts with staff, visitors, etc., under all conditions/circumstances. May be required to work extended periods of time at a computer requiring repetitive motion. Infrequent light physical effort required.
