Senior Systems Administrator - VDI specific

Location: Houston, TX - onsite 3 days a week

Direct Hire - MUST BE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES NOW AND IN THE FUTURE WITHOUT ASSISTANCE

Target Pay: $120-140K depending on experience

I'm working with a client seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to lead the management and optimization of their VMware Horizon-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). This is a highly impactful role focused on maintaining system performance, implementing upgrades, and resolving escalated technical issues across a complex enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the administration, support, and troubleshooting of VMware Horizon, including Instant Clones, UEM/DEM, and App Volumes.

Install, configure, and upgrade Windows Server environments (2016+), Active Directory, and associated services.

Support VDI performance tuning, monitoring, and issue resolution, including after-hours support as needed.

Collaborate with IT leadership on planning and implementation of new infrastructure projects.

Supervise and mentor junior system administrators and coordinate with 3rd-party support vendors.

Ensure system documentation, security, and compliance with organizational standards.

Participate in change control, disaster recovery planning, and end-user rollout initiatives.Requirements:

10+ years of enterprise IT administration experience.

3+ years of hands-on experience with VMware Horizon, vSphere, vCenter, Workspace ONE, and Identity Manager.

Strong understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, SMB, iSCSI, etc.).

Experience with backup solutions, monitoring tools, and system configuration management.

VMware certifications preferred.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
