Job Description

Skilled Parks Laborer

Position involves the maintenance of City Parks and Municipal Complex grounds as well as various construction projects and other special projects assigned by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below)

Maintenance of City Parks, City Recreation facilities, and the Municipal Complex grounds

Construct various projects assigned for the above facilities

Perform landscape installation and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns

Perform snow and ice removal on city-owned or maintained walkways, parking lots, and roadways

Directs other temporary part time employees in activities as assigned

Evaluate assigned projects for materials, equipment, and manpower needed

Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies

Operate various grounds maintenance and construction equipment as assigned.

Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor or as in the personnel policy

BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience in buildings and grounds maintenance

Class B-CDL Driver's License

Sprayers License with the state of Illinois

Manual Dexterity Abilities

Various construction skills including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and concrete

Landscaping skills including installation, maintenance, and inspection

Ability to operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, loaders, backhoe, and other equipment

Ability to operate various hand and power tools

Ability to do physical labor with freedom of movement

Ability to interface with the public and represent the City in a positive manner

Ability to work independently after instruction from supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
