About the Role
The Utility Tech reports to the Project Manager at Bermex. This position will play a key role in disconnecting and reconnecting utility services at commercial and residential customer sites. This position will also inspect and report unsafe meter installations, and other safety hazards during the disconnect/reconnect process. This position requires a significant amount of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, a high priority placed on safety, and excellent attention to detail.

What You'll Do
Gas Disconnect and Reconnect
Gas disconnect work is performed by driving from site to site
Verifies correct customer address and meter
Reads gas meters, records value and reports possible tampering
Turn off utility customer’s gas service for non-payment or per customer request
Places locking devices on gas meter shut off valves
Meets standards for safety and quality while driving, parking, and performing disconnects (participates in safety meetings)
Follows safety, quality, and operational procedures (wearing assigned personal protective equipment & company uniform)
Extensively walk and stand for much of the workday
Walking for long distances in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.)
Exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10lbs of force, up to an occasional 50lbs of force)
Relighting pilot lights
Checking for potential abnormal operating conditions
Water Disconnect and Reconnect
Water disconnect and reconnect work is performed by driving from site to site

Turn on utility customer’s water service for payment or new customers
Places locking devices on water meter shut off valves
Meets standards for safety and quality while driving, parking, and performing disconnects (participates in safety meetings)
Follows safety, quality, and operational procedures (wearing assigned personal protective equipment & company uniform)
Extensively walk and stand for much of the workday
Walking for long distances in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.)

About you
Must Haves:
Education: No education required. Must be at least 21 years of age
Experience: No experience necessary. Employees will be trained. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Training: Upon hire, the candidate will be required to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) Training.
Nice to Have:
Education: High School Degree/GED.
Experience: 1 or more years of experience in meter reading or working in outdoor conditions. Must possess a valid driver’s license
Gas or Water meter disconnect/reconnect services ; 1 year of continuous work with the same employer, and/or 6 or more months working
Your Skills:
Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as a team
Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling
Excellent time management skills to complete work orders
Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting management and customers
Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner
Excellent attention to detail for problem solving and finding
Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly

Do not have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a days work in a timely manner

Where we Work
Employees will begin their day at the local office where they will pick up their company vehicle, equipment, and assignments for the day.
