An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 10th-grade student in a K-12 classroom setting located in Durham, NC. This position is designed for the upcoming school year and involves providing essential communication access through sign language, facilitating the students learning in a separate classroom environment.
Qualifications:
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification, NAD certification)
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
Previous experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly with K-12 students
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with educators and staff
Understanding of deaf culture and educational strategies for deaf or hard-of-hearing students

Responsibilities:
Interpret educational content and facilitate communication between the student and teachers using ASL
Collaborate with special education staff to ensure the students needs are met effectively
Attend faculty meetings and participate in professional development as required
Maintain a supportive and encouraging learning environment for the student
Regularly assess and adapt interpreting techniques to align with the students progress and needs
