POSITION: Western Colorado University invites applications for a non-tenure-track full time faculty position in Art. Teaching responsibilities in the Art and General Education programs is typically 15 credit hours/semester with opportunities for a reduced load for reassign for campus service. Courses and duties could include: introductory to Art, Drawing (all levels), 2D and 3D Design, Art History, development of interdisciplinary first year seminar courses, mentoring of undergraduate students, and foundation portfolio coordinator duties. Other courses could be included in the teaching load based on need and the successful candidate's qualifications. This position is in-person and located in a remote resort mountain town, Gunnison, CO.
The Western Art program thrives within a vibrant community of student artists and the broader creative culture of the Gunnison Valley. As a certified Creative District, the Gunnison Valley offers rich opportunities for artistic collaboration, exhibition, and engagement with a dynamic regional art scene. The Art Program at Western has approximately 90 majors. Students can earn BA degrees in Art, BFA degrees in Art with an emphasis in Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Jewelry, and Printmaking and Secondary Licensure in K-12 Art. QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a MA in Art or related field, preference given to MFA in Art. Candidates should have teaching experience related to Art. Preference given to candidates who have 2 years teaching experience. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, excellence in teaching, and willingness to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population. Candidates must also be able to use technology in instructional delivery, including ability to teach online and hybrid courses. Collegiality and professional flexibility are characteristic of the department and would be sought in the successful candidate.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $50,000-$52,000 annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
