Position Overview:

The Controller is responsible for Constructable’s financial integrity, accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting. This role will provide strategic financial leadership, professionalize accounting functions, and ensure GAAP compliance. You will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO & COO while developing and mentoring the current accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Reporting

Oversee general ledger, job costing, WIP schedules, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly close.

Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Prepare internal reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and dashboards for leadership.

Develop and document business processes and accounting policies.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Establish strong internal controls across all accounting functions.

Lead audit preparation and interface with external auditors, CPAs, and tax advisors.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting and tax requirements.

Job Costing & Project Accounting

Review and validate job cost reports, WIP, and percent-complete revenue recognition.

Partner with Project Management to drive job profitability and forecast accuracy.

Lead collaboration between Project Management and Accounting in order to improve internal processes and reporting

Standardize cost codes and financial systems to improve real-time insights.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead and mentor Accounting Manager, Project Accountant, and supporting roles.

Upskill the team through training, development plans, and cross-functional exposure.

Create a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Financial Support

Support cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and working capital initiatives.

Develop relationships with key contacts at banks, bonding agencies, and accounting firms, and prepare external reporting required for each

Provide financial due diligence, KPI reporting, and insights for executive decisions.

Help prepare the company for private equity due diligence and investment readiness.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience required

Professional certification (i.e. CPA, CCIFP) preferred

7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience

3+ years of leadership experience (construction, real estate, or project-based industry preferred)

Deep knowledge of GAAP, job costing, WIP accounting, internal controls, and the structure necessary to execute these efficiently and effectively

Understanding of data analysis and forecasting

Well-organized with ability to prioritize and help team prioritize

Experience with ERP or construction accounting systems (Vista by Viewpoint preferred)

Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, and coaching skills

Experience participating in an ERP implementation is a plus

Expert in Excel

Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and high-accountability environment
