Job Summary

The responsibilities of a Diesel Service Technician include diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing all types of diesel-powered light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. They will have great communication skills and collaborate with the parts department.

Responsibilities

Perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership

Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment

Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems

Test engine safety and combustion controls to comply with federal and state requirements

Follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, and call for repairs to keep shop equipment operational

Complete preventative maintenance, install part upgrades, winterize vehicles and control corrosion to keep vehicles available

Examine protective guards, loose bolts, safety devices on trucks, and adjust as needed

Communicate directly with the Service Advisor so that customers can be informed if any additional service is needed

Provide estimates of time needed for additional repairs

Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

At least 2 years of experience as an auto technician (Diesel Technician experience preferred)

Knowledge in all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance

Fast, eager learner and team player

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Computer skills and willingness to learn new problems

Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment

Clean driving record & valid driver’s license
